Director's Message

Jennifer Cava

The Academy for Science and Design is advancing our mission of cultivating New Hampshire's future innovators in science and technology through the unique, personalized pathways we make available to our students.  Founded as a public Charter school in 2007, ASD has recognized the critical importance of providing New Hampshire students with a world-class education in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).

Our success in achieving these goals depends upon our students' experiences while enrolled at the Academy for Science and Design.  Our skillful teachers and challenging curriculum depend heavily on the availability of partnerships and cooperative arrangements with local employers and training organizations to provide opportunities for inspiring our students and preparing for them to succeed.  To this end, we call upon community members to join us in the mission to bolster New Hampshire's future workforce and to support the advancement of science and technology in our state.

As the Director of the Academy for Science and Design (ASD), a high-performing, STEM-focused public Charter school in New Hampshire, Jenn Cava has spent the last decade fostering an environment that inspires, nurtures, and challenges every student; cultivating their individual abilities to lead advancements in science and technology. Under her leadership, the Academy for Science and Design has been recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, as the Number 1 High School in New Hampshire and in the Top 75 National STEM schools by US News and World Report. Cava has been featured by New Hampshire Women’s Magazine as a top female leader in education, and was also featured by New Hampshire Magazine as a member of the “It List." Cava currently serves as an Executive Board Member for the NH Charter School Alliance.

As a graduate student at Brown University, Cava was deeply involved in the early stages of the University’s Arts & Literacy program implementation, drawing upon her undergraduate experiences as a double major in the Humanities and Theatre Arts at Smith College. With an additional decade of classroom teaching experience at middle and high schools across the northeast, as well as a Master’s Degree in Education and Certification in Educational Leadership, Jenn Cava has developed and implemented a set of strategies for fostering a culture of encouragement for individual inquiry and risk-taking that is supported school-wide by teachers, administrators, and students, as well by the school's large network of volunteers, parents, and industry partners.
